  • Changed the old policy to a new one, in terms of who responds to an actual spill.   Also, perform industrial hygiene monitoring when spills are in high concentration or foreign.

  • Oversee the distribution of the policies and procedures for the safety and fire plan/manuals.

  • Participates in any regulatory surveys involving Safety Management or Physical Environment. 

  • Develops recommendations for hazardous and safety related incidences in the physical environment.

  • Monitors Quality Control/Performance Improvement issues as it relates to Safety Management. 

  • Responsible for scheduling Code Red Fire Drills throughout the hospital; complying with NFPA, hospital policy, and DNV accreditation. In addition, perform hands on training with every department throughout the hospital on the Emergency Response Fire Plan (R.A.C.E.; Rescue, Alarm, Contain/Confine, Evacuate/Extinguish), and how to properly use a fire extinguisher (P.A.S.S.; Pull Aim, Squeeze, Sweep).  Lastly, perform the actual drill with Security and Engineering/Facilities throughout the hospital once per shift per quarter. All incidences are reported to the Physical Environment Safety Committee Meeting, in which I am the Chairperson.

  • Went through a CMS and DNV Audits, in which there were no fallouts regarding Safety, and acted at the official Host and Scribe.

  • Document all Code Red Events (Fire) – Actual Fires, False Alarms, and Drills.

  • Performed Industrial Hygiene duties in efforts to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace hazards in the hospital.  Duties performed: Indoor Air Quality Assessments, Mold Investigation, Moisture Detection, Nuisance Odor Investigations, and Pre & Post Construction Projects Indoor Air Quality

  • Collaborated with Accreditation/Regulatory Affairs in efforts to perform EOC rounds across all departments in the hospital.  They perform an initial audit, and the Safety Specialist performs the follow up. This system is working well, and all reports are submitted to Administration. 

  • Received Certificate of Completion – Hospital Decontamination Operations, from Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council (SETRAC).

  • Received OSHA #521 Training, OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene, from OSHA Training Institute Education Centers; The University of Texas at Arlington. Provides knowledge of OSHA regulations related to industrial hygiene as well as relevant industrial hygiene practices and procedures.
